The issue of surplus food wastage is a developing worry because of its critical natural effects. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), around 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted annually. Overproduction, inadequate planning and coordination, and customer conduct lead to food waste. Excess food wastage unfavourably affects the climate. A review distributed in the Diary of Cleaner Creation in 2021 by Damiani exhibited that food wastage significantly affects the climate. The studies concluded that food wastage doesn’t just cause exhaustion of energy and water assets. It also causes the dirt to become more contaminated because of the addition of hazardous chemicals to the climate. The studies also showed that food wastage increases ozone-depleting substance emanations as natural waste deteriorates and releases methane into the environment.
Moreover, food wastage likewise annihilates natural surroundings, as food creation requires massive measures of land and assets. Thus, the climate’s biodiversity is compromised, which affects the climate. All in all, excess food wastage significantly affects the climate, and it is critical to diminish food wastage to safeguard the climate and lessen the adverse consequences it has on the climate.

This project aims to address the growing food waste problem by developing an android-based food waste management system that connects restaurants and hotels with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working to combat hunger and food insecurity. The app would allow these organizations to request and collect surplus food from participating establishments, which would otherwise go to waste, for distribution to those in need. This solution not only helps to reduce food waste but also makes a meaningful impact on addressing food insecurity in underprivileged communities.

The SFM application has succeeded tremendously, as the project was recently selected to be showcased at the 2nd International Conference on Technology, Innovation, and Sustainability in Business Management (ICTIS 2023) hosted at Middlesex University Dubai. This is a significant recognition of the value and potential impact of the SFM application. Additionally, a video demonstration was created, which helped to illustrate the benefits of the SFM application in a clear and concise manner. This success is a testament to the hard work and dedication that went into developing the SFM application, and I am proud to have been the sole contributor to its development.
